The Antique Professionals' Source: Asheville's Brunk Auctions

NC: Stirling and I went to a recent house sale in our town of Basking Ridge, a community with its fair share of antique lovers. Our purchases were fun -- Stirling's first antique piece of furniture (a pine dresser for a future home), silver serving pieces, and an exquisite Japanese bone china tea set. But it was meeting the sale's organizer, Carolyn Remmey, and the tidbit that she shared that were the best deal of the day.

We started speaking with Carolyn, after detecting a syrupy lilt in her voice. While Carolyn moved to New Jersey decades ago, she still carries the vocal thumbprint of her North Carolina origins. She also carries the professional chops of an antiques expert, appraiser and auctioneer, having served as a regular on PBS's Antiques Road Show.

When Carolyn found out that Stirling is in school in Asheville, her eyes lit up. Have you heard of Brunk's, she wanted to know. We hadn't, but she was more than happy to spill the beans.

Brunk's started as regional auction house 20 years ago; today they serve clients worldwide. The house is run by Robert Brunk and son Andrew, formerly head of Christie's American furniture department in New York. Housed in a 26,000 square foot former furniture store and warehouse, Brunk's staff has grown to three galleries employing a staff of fifteen.

The firm holds eight to ten auctions a year, or approximately every seven weeks. The next auction is sheduled for Saturday, September 9 featuring primarily 18th and 19th century furnishings and decorative items. If you can't make it to Asheville for the auction, items are featured on Brunk's website and absentee and telephone bidding are both available.

So from an Roadshow expert, we tell you in a big stage whisper that this find is the real deal -- check out Asheville's Brunk Auctions for exceptional offerings.
