Making Work Fun
"It's harder than ever to separate work and play," heralds Fortune magazine in their annual Business Life issue. In this case, they go on to say that this may not be a bad thing when people have found a career that allows them to have fun and make money while exploring their passions.
This perspective will become increasingly relevant for many of us as work and life become more intertwined as a result of the advantages and challenges of living more connected lives.
Being connected blurs the lines between work and life, allows people to work remotely, leave the big city and (idealistically) find a more serene life. The onus and responsibility, however, will be to make sure that the life they create is indeed balanced.
Small-town living doesn't automatically mean a perfect, or even less hectic, life. But in many cases, when people have made a conscious decision to try to invent the life they want, they will seize the opportunity to exert more control over the experience they ultimately create.
In my case, I am planning that life of passion now, by transitioning into a rotation of travel, storytelling and, most importantly, personal relevance.
