The Most Revolutionary Thing About NJ's Minute Man Restaurant Is The Great Eats

NJ: We recently had reason to celebrate. Alex was accepted to his first-choice university for the fall of 2007 (Roll Tide!), so naturally we wanted to head to one of his favorite spots. In this case, the Minute Man Restaurant on Highway 202 in Bernardsville, NJ filled the bill.

From its caramel-colored, wood-slathered walls to the mile-high pies in the front case, a trip to the Minute Man is like a big, friendly hug.

A local institution since the 1960s, Minute Man provides old-fashioned, down home cooking morning, noon and night. Housed in an old milk barn, the restaurant was recently acquired by Pat Garrity (and his wife, Kathi), who reminisced of "picking up his dates" here as a teen.

While the restaurant's ownership may have changed recently, the atmosphere and good eats have remained consistent throughout the years. At breakfast, the blueberry pancakes are sumptuously plump with their namesake fruit, the omelets are filled to overflowing and the french toast is thick yet feather light. Lunch and dinner are highlighted with salads to die for and  magnificent hamburgers named for the Revolutionary heroes who once roamed this area.

And for us, it was the perfect down home place to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of one simple, down-to-earth young man.
