Women Rule When It Comes to Homebuying
At a 2003 real estate conference, developer Shane Wenzel heard a speech that forever changed the way he looked at his business. Why the change in course? Because Wenzel heard a presentation (and had an epiphany) on the incredible buying power of women.
Upon returning from the conference, Wenzel set up focus groups of women, who happily shared their opinions. The sessions proved eye-opening. Pantries were too small. Kitchen windows were misplaced. Combination laundry/mud rooms were not well thought out.
And with that, Wenzel made changes. And continued to seek input from women consumers on future designs.
He is not alone. Increasingly, businesses are realizing they must listen to and market their products to women, who have increasing purchasing and decisionmaking power. In addition to real estate, retailers who deal in home improvement and design purchases are also realigning marketing priorities. And women are flexing that muscle with thoughtful and well-researched purchases. One statistic states that women make 70% of travel purchase decisions. It is predicted that by 2028, women will earn more that men.
So, as you think about relocating, retiring or relaxing, remember that -- if you are a woman -- you may have more influence than ever before.
