Getting Twiggy With It

So you live, relax or have retired to America’s back roads and charming towns. But that of course doesn’t mean that you don’t want to stay plugged in. Today’s technology has allowed more of us than ever to telecommute, to embrace digital resources or to stay connected to people and places around the world.
But being high tech doesn’t mean you can’t express your sense of back road wonder in a decidedly beautiful, low tech package.

Dutch designer Guido Ooms has taken computer memory sticks to a new level by housing them in, well, a stick.
Guido and designer girlfriend Karin van Lieshout forage for the wooden casings on the forest floor, seeking those with distinct characteristics such as knot holes, rich barks and tattoos created from the nibbles of small animals. Their inspiration? To create high tech gadgets that don’t look too plasticy or antiseptic. Clearly, they have succeeded.
Orders have been brisk since they introduced the innovative USB drives. Prices range from $59 - $92, based on the amount of memory.
